Waggin’ Tails - Angel

May 28, 2007

Name: Angel

Age: 3 1/2 years

Favorite H. Doodle Item: Gooby Freedom Harness

Angel is a rescue whose only vice is food--she’s a little overweight and we’ve got her on a diet and give her multiple walks a day. She’s 22 pounds. She snorts like a pig, walks while she eats and goes crazy over bananas and ice cubes. Her harness is great and she likes wearing it. She’s now an urban dog and in an urban setting there’s tons of things going on, but we need her to exercise and go to the bathroom. She loves stopping at the open door of the Chinese restaurant next to our building and giving the inside a few long sniffs. She loves to walk up to crowds of people, and there are a lot of them. So her walks can be daunting, not because of her but because she’s getting used to a more urban lifestyle. Having a harness that gives her freedom yet allows us to control her is very important right now. Although, she may never be able to just walk by the Chinese restaurant without giving it a little sniff!

Is your four-legged friend having a tail waggin’ good time with one of H. Doodle’s products?  If so, send us pictures along with a few words about what you and and your pup like about the product and we will post it on the H. Doodle blog.

Fact or Fiction - What’s harmful for your dog?

Apr 18, 2007

Fact or Fiction - What's harmful for your dog?

Most of the time, things that are dangerous for our beloved, four-legged friends are pretty obvious.  However, there are some things that you may hear conflicting advice about.  What is true and what is just a myth?

Febreeze is dangerous to pets

FICTION: Febreeze is perfectly safe to use in households with pets.  However, it is recommended that the Febreeze, or any other product in an aerosol can, not be used in close proximity to birds as it can cause respiratory problems.

Swiffer Wet Jet is harmful for your dog

FICTION: The rumor is that the Swiffer Wet Jet cleaning solution contains an ingredient similiar to antifreeze and if ingested by your dog can cause liver failure.  The truth is that the Swiffer Wet Jet formula is 90% water and has very low percentages of propylene glycol n-butyl ether.  At the current concentration level, these ingredients would not cause liver damage in pets.

Macademia Nuts are harmful for dogs

FACT: Macademia nuts can cause your dog to have tremors and weakness in their hind legs.  These symptoms have been found in dogs that eat one gram of macademia nuts or more per pound of their body weight.

Pennies are poisonous if ingested

FACT: This will not only put a hurt on your wallet, but it can also be harmful for your pooch.  Pennies that were minted after 1982 contain 99.2 percent zinc.  Zinc, if ingested, can cause problems in the kidneys, liver, red blood cells and the gastrointestinal tract.

Poinsettias are poisonous to pets

FICTION: This popular holiday plant may upset your pet’s stomach if ingested but it is not poisonous to dogs.  Dana B. Farbman, CVT of the ASPCA’s Animal Poison Control Center had this to offer, “In reality, ingestions typically produce only mild to moderate gastrointestinal tract irritation in pets, which may include drooling, vomiting and diarrhea.”

Show us your pics

Apr 15, 2007

One of the best parts of running H. Doodle is talking to other small dog owners about their pooch’s favorite toys or the outfits that their pups like to wear.  On top of that, there is nothing better than when someone sends in a picture of their little one with their new prize.  So, I thought it would be fun to share pictures of H. Doodle’s four-legged customers with their favorite toy, treat or outfit on the newly launched H. Doodle blog.

So, if your little one has anything from the H. Doodle store send us a picture of your pup with their H. Doodle treat to .  Also, in the e-mail give us all the details.  Tell us about your furry friend, what they like about their item, what you like about the item and any other fun stuff that you would like to share.  We will then post your picture and your story on the H. Doodle blog.

I think this will be a lot of fun and I am looking forward to seeing the pictures of all you cute pooches!

First Aid for Dogs

Apr 15, 2007

First Aid or Dogs

Just like with humans, our canine friends can encounter accidents at any time or place.  The best way to ensure the safety of your four-legged friend is to know how to handle medical emergencies when they occur.

To be prepared it is essential to have a basic knowledge of canine first aid and safety.  A great way to learn about dog first aid techniques is by taking a course.  However, finding time to fit in a first aid course into your busy schedule may be a difficult trick.  The good news is that dog first aid courses are now available online, so you can take the course from the comfort of your own home when your schedule allows.

One such first aid course offered online is the Online Pet First Aid Course ($35) provided by Connected Learning Network.  The online course makes use of videos and detailed instructions to help you:

  • recognize emergencies
  • provide emergency life support
  • handle sudden illness
  • care for wounds, bleeding and burns
  • treat physical injuries
  • handle poisoning and environmental emergencies
  • prepare for disasters

Whether you take an online course, attend a training seminar or read a book on canine first aid, the skills that you learn may help you save your beloved pooch’s life one day.  During emergencies, it is often the little things that we do when the accident first occurs that make a big difference.

New Engravable Pet ID Tags

Feb 11, 2007

Red Dingo ID Tags

H. Doodle is happy to announce that we now offer Red Dingo engravable pet ID tags.  There is a lot to love about these tags, but here are our favorite things:

  • Choices, choices and more choices!  There are 8 hip designs to choose from and each design comes in 9 different colors.  Plus, each tag is available in 3 different sizes.  So you can mix and match and design the perfect tag.
  • The engraving is guaranteed to be readable for the lifetime of the tag.  Tags are subject to a lot of wear and tear as they jingle from your little one’s harness.  As tags rub against each other the engraving is no longer visible sometimes.  Red Dingo guarantees that this will never happen to their tags.
  • Thickness!  Red Dingo tags are twice as thick as most pet tags on the market.
  • Free Shipping and engraving!  Pay nothing for shipping or engraving.  You can’t beat that!
